What Is BFCM? 2026 Dates, Meaning and Shopify Prep Checklist

BFCM means Black Friday Cyber Monday. In 2026 it runs November 27 to 30. See the key dates and a Shopify checklist for images, product data and AI shoppers.

BFCM stands for Black Friday Cyber Monday, the four-day shopping weekend that starts the day after US Thanksgiving. In 2026, BFCM runs from Black Friday, November 27, to Cyber Monday, November 30, and it is the biggest sales weekend of the year for most Shopify stores.

This guide covers what BFCM means, the full 2026 calendar, how big the weekend is, and a week-by-week checklist for getting your Shopify catalog ready, including the product images and product data that AI shopping assistants now read before they recommend anything.

What does BFCM mean?

BFCM is an acronym for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, plus the Saturday and Sunday between them. Retailers, Shopify and most ecommerce tools treat the four days as one event because shoppers do: they browse deals on Friday, compare over the weekend and buy the rest on Monday.

  • Black Friday began as a US in-store shopping day after Thanksgiving. It is now global and mostly online.
  • Cyber Monday was coined in 2005 for the Monday when people shopped online from work. Today it is often the biggest online spending day of the year in the US.
  • Cyber Week is the wider window, usually from Thanksgiving to the Tuesday after Cyber Monday.

For more background on the event, read What is BFCM 2026? on the Craftshift blog.

When is BFCM 2026?

US Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November, so in 2026 the dates are:

DayDate (2026)What it is
ThanksgivingThursday, November 26US holiday; many early deals go live
Black FridayFriday, November 27BFCM starts
Small Business SaturdaySaturday, November 28Focus on independent stores
SundaySunday, November 29Weekend deals continue
Cyber MondayMonday, November 30BFCM ends
Giving TuesdayTuesday, December 1Charity day; end of Cyber Week

Because Black Friday is tied to the US holiday, the date is the same worldwide, even in countries that do not celebrate Thanksgiving. Many stores now start “early Black Friday” offers in the first weeks of November, so treat November 1 as the real start of the season.

How big is BFCM for Shopify stores?

Very big, and still growing. According to Shopify’s own figures, merchants sold a record $14.6 billion over BFCM 2025, up 27% from 2024. More than 81 million shoppers bought from Shopify stores that weekend, and sales peaked at $5.1 million per minute on Black Friday.

For the wider US market, Adobe reported a record $14.25 billion in online spending on Cyber Monday 2025 alone.

How are AI assistants changing BFCM shopping?

The same Adobe report found that traffic to US retail sites from generative AI tools rose 693% over the 2025 holiday season compared with 2024. Shoppers ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Copilot questions like “best wireless earbuds under $100 for running”, get a short list of products, and click straight through.

This is often called agentic commerce: an AI agent searches, compares and sometimes checks out on the shopper’s behalf. For BFCM 2026 it changes what “being ready” means. An assistant can only recommend products it can find and understand, and it judges them on facts: a clear title, a complete description, the right category, sizes, materials, price, availability and images. A great discount on a product with thin data may never reach the shortlist.

What should you prepare for BFCM on Shopify?

Most of the work is done in October and early November, not on the weekend itself. Here is a practical timeline.

6 weeks before (mid-October)

  1. Pick your offers. Decide which products get a discount, which bundles you will push, and what your margin floor is.
  2. Audit your catalog. Find products with missing photos, variants that show the wrong image, empty descriptions or no product category. These are the listings that lose sales from both shoppers and AI assistants.
  3. Plan stock. Check inventory on your best sellers and reorder early; suppliers are busy too.

4 weeks before (end of October)

  1. Fix product images in bulk. Every product and every variant should have sharp, correct photos. See the section on images below.
  2. Improve product data for AI shoppers. Rewrite weak titles and descriptions, fill category fields and variant attributes. See the section on Octolift below.
  3. Answer shopper questions on your store. Make sure your shipping, returns and holiday delivery cut-off dates are written on published pages, so both people and assistants can find them.

2 weeks before (mid-November)

  1. Build and test discounts and automatic offers on a few products before you schedule them.
  2. Prepare emails and ads and the landing pages they point to.
  3. Test your store speed and checkout on a phone, since most BFCM traffic is mobile.

BFCM week (November 23 to 30)

  1. Avoid big catalog changes. Bulk edits during peak traffic are risky; finish them before.
  2. Watch stock and orders daily and pause ads on products that sell out.
  3. Track where sales come from, including AI channels, so you know what to repeat next year.

Why do product images matter so much on BFCM?

Shoppers decide fast on a sale weekend, and the photo is usually the first thing they judge. A product with one blurry image, or a variant that shows red when the shopper picked blue, loses the click. Media is also one of the fields AI shopping agents check when deciding whether a product is complete enough to recommend.

If you have hundreds or thousands of new or reshot photos to load before November, doing it one product at a time in the Shopify admin is not realistic. Smart Bulk Image Upload attaches images from Google Drive or Dropbox to the right products and variants in one run. It matches each file by SKU, barcode, product title, metafield or variant ID, shows a full preview (including the alt text it will write) before anything changes, and lets you either add to or replace existing images.

A few tips for a clean pre-BFCM image run:

Images get the click, but product data gets you into the answer. Octolift, a Shopify app from Craftshift, gives each product an AI visibility score from 0 to 100, split into listing quality (title, description, category and attributes) and agent readiness (whether Shopify’s catalog can see the product with prices, availability, policies, media and reviews).

For BFCM prep, the useful parts are:

Octolift featureWhat it does before BFCM
AI visibility scoreShows which products are least ready, so you fix the listings that matter first
Improve with AIDrafts better descriptions, titles and category values without inventing facts; nothing changes until you approve
AI rankingsRuns real shopper questions and checks whether ChatGPT and Gemini mention your products
Knowledge baseFlags common questions (shipping, returns) your published pages do not answer
Agentic salesReports orders and visits from AI channels, so you can measure BFCM results

The free plan covers 5 products, enough to scan your top sellers. Our Octolift overview explains each feature and the paid plans.

The two apps work well together: Octolift tells you which products have weak data or missing media, and Smart Bulk Image Upload fills the image gaps in bulk.

What are common BFCM mistakes to avoid?

  • Starting too late. Photo shoots, catalog fixes and app setup all take longer than expected.
  • Discounting products with weak listings. A deal does not help if shoppers or assistants cannot understand the product.
  • Changing everything during the weekend. Lock your catalog a few days before Black Friday.
  • Ignoring variants. Wrong or missing variant images cause returns and abandoned carts.
  • Not measuring. Without tracking, you cannot tell which offers, channels and AI assistants drove sales.

Summary

BFCM is the Black Friday to Cyber Monday weekend, November 27 to 30 in 2026, and Shopify merchants sold $14.6 billion over it last year. With AI-driven shopping traffic up almost sevenfold, being ready now means complete product images and clear product data, not only good discounts. Start your catalog fixes this month: load and match your photos in bulk with Smart Bulk Image Upload (free for your first 25 images), and use Octolift to make sure AI assistants can find and recommend your products before Black Friday.
